Simply use one part ordinary white cane sugar to four parts water.

It's not necessary to boil the water. The microorganisms that cause fermentation don't come from the water; they are transported to the feeder on hummingbird's bills.
Store unused sugar water in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Never use honey, syrup, or any other substitute as it's fatal to hummingbirds.
Do not use artificial sweeteners.

Hummingbirds also eat small insects, and to help attract them to your yard, you can simply hang an overripe banana peal or cantaloupe near the feeder; a mesh produce sack works well. please, use all pesticides wisely and only when needed, because hummingbirds depend on small insects as part of their diet and feed on nectar from garden flowers.
