Detourant Ant Moat for Hummingbird Feeders

Clever moat, clever name... Detour - Ant

The Detourant works differently by slowing or even eliminating evaporation. Wind causing spillage, and generally dry, hot days of summer contribute to emptying ant moats quickly. Without water, they're useless and sugar ants will prevail.

Sans any chemicals, water remains inside the moat longer via inner reservoir. Turn upside down to fill, slowly turn upright and hang. Feeder attaches to bottom ring of Detourant with enclosed s-hook. May be emptied in the same fashion for winter storage.

Ant Moats are also ideal for oriole and butterfly nectar, and fruit & jelly feeders too. Save the goods for birds... not ants!

Detourant Ant Moat for Hummingbird Feeders

The moat is a nice design and arrived quickly. I wanted to give an extra shout out to the excellent customer service from The Birdhouse Chick. My first moat broke when I tried to use it. I send photos and requested a replacement. I got a fast, polite, and helpful response and a replacement shipped right away. I would definitely buy here again.

    Works Well

It does just what it says it will do. Since it’s enclosed there isn’t a problem with it needing frequent refills.

    Detourant Ant Moat

Sorry this took so long to review... we couldn't put it up until our yard was finished, and I wanted to give time to see what it does. We have thankfully not had a problem with ants trying to get to the feeder so far, but the detourant does what it says it does differently. The water does not evaporate quickly. We thought it'd be a pain to fill- that we'd have to take the whole feeder down, but you can fill it with a hose quite easily. It is plastic, and our feeder weighs around 5 lbs... so we'll see how it lasts through time, but the hooks are nice. We've never used an ant moat before, but for what's out there, it seems better than the rest. I would definitely buy any type of supplies from the Birdhouse Chick again :)

    A better ant moat.

This ant mote is expensive, but effective. The main advantage is that the cover keeps the water from accumulating a lot of dust and debris. Since it is one-piece it is difficult to do anything but rinse the water out to change it.
