Bluebird Feeders
Feed Your Favorite Backyard Visitors – Bluebird Feeders that Work
Bluebirds are some of the most popular birds for people to attract. Beyond their beauty and charming appearance, they rely on us. In fact, the eastern bluebird was threatened until people just like you started making nesting boxes for them.
Watching bluebirds come into your yard when they return for the season is a sight to behold, and with our specially-made bluebird feeders, you can enjoy it easier than ever!
Attract More Bluebirds with the Right Feeder and Food
Mealworms & the perfect habitat are key elements in attracting bluebirds. Traditional fly-in feeders are designed for feeding their favorite, mealworms! Find hanging and post-mounted bluebird feeders and open dish designs for worms. Provide a birdbath and proper nesting sites, and you'll be seeing blue too!
For some reason, most birds will not enter a feeder, but blues will, and Carolina wrens are usually the first to figure it out! This traditional style bluebird feeder is ideal for offering worms, though they may also be fed on a platform or in a dish feeder. But beware, whether hanging, dish, or staked feeder, once discovered, other species will devour the tasty treat in no time flat!
The bluebird diet consists mostly of insects in spring and summer. They'll eat berries, suet, and possibly sunflower hearts in colder months, though not considered seed-eaters. Therefore, bluebirds aren't very likely to visit your other feeders.
Having made a strong comeback after declining numbers in the 70's, we host and monitor trails, and feed them in our yards for the simple pleasure of watching these avian wonders.
Providing an adequate nest site in open space is highly encouraged, and using a NABS Approved bluebird house will increase the success of fledges. Bird baths also entice them, and multitudes of other songbirds, too! Many Eastern bluebirds will overwinter, provided there is an adequate natural food source (with supplemental feeding) and a consistent fresh water source like a heated bird bath.
The feeder you use has a lot to do with whether you attract bluebirds or not. It’s best to use mealworms, dried or fresh, and not all bird feeders can accommodate that. That’s about 68% of their diet, and fruits and berries are the other 32%. Your standard seed feeder just won’t work well.
On top of that, the feeder needs to be safe from predators.
Designed for Bluebirds – Not for Squirrels
Bluebirds have specific needs that normal bird feeders don’t meet. Namely, they need small entryways that rodents and predators, such as cats, can’t get through, but a spacious enough interior that they can move around comfortably.
Our feeders feature plenty of safeguards to protect the bluebirds properly, and we provide multiple mounting options, with hanging versions being a favorite.
These predator-prevention features also keep squirrels away from raiding the feeder and taking all the food before the bluebirds can even show up. So, they greatly increase your chance of getting lots of bluebirds in your yard the next time they come around.
