Our Nesting Cups encourage Barn Swallows to take up residence at your place... in a safe and sturdy nest that won't fall down!
Coax them from inconvenient nesting spots for their 2nd brood too. Nest cups may be placed under eaves on the porch or garage, or any high location protected from sun, rain and wind.
Allowing some space away from a corner makes them a bit more appealing but not necessary. Swallows prefer to have full access to their nest... with the ability to enter/exit from both the right and left sides.
Quality construction, cups feature two counter sunk holes for easy mounting. Swallows will reuse these handmade nest cups year after year. A fun bird to observe, they're most beneficial to your habitat for natural pest control. Eastern Phoebes may also use these fine digs to raise a family or two!
Check out this short story and pics sent in by a CA customer who successfully coaxed her barn swallows to their new digs!
Set of two nest cups. Measures: 6 x 6 x 4 Item Weight: 2 lb. Material: Wood (Recycled Pine Boards - Both Southern and Northern Pine) USA Made
NOTE: SCREWS NOT INCLUDED
A bit of background: Current agricultural practices, buildings etc. are not conducive to nesting. Swallows can not attach their nests to smooth lumber, steel or vinyl, so they could use some help. With the demolition of old bridges, barns and other structures- their habitat is shrinking rapidly.
An Ohio conservationist did some research and came up with a terrific nesting cup to help barn swallows thrive. Upon a trial of 30 or so cups, he found they worked perfectly! There was a 50% occupancy rate. Over the next few years the nest cups were placed at different locations; in culverts under roads and bridges, etc. The Barn Swallow population in this area now flourishes and thrives thanks to the efforts of one concerned craftsman.
Need a small or large quantity for a conservation project in your area? Just give us a call... we'd be thrilled to help with your efforts!

Thanks for sharing Sarah! I'm glad to see the birds have already found their new home :)
We installed the nesting cups under our back porch and the Barn Swallows immediately took to it and started placing sticks and feathers in the cup. In a matter of days they laid their eggs and voila! -5 big fat healthy babies. Placing amother!

5 babies and eggs already — Linda, that's about as good as it gets! The fact that they moved in that fast says a lot about how well you placed them. Placing another is absolutely the right call. 🐣🐦

Wow! Thank you so much for sharing your photo of the Carolina wrens enjoying your Barn Swallow Nest Cups. It’s such a sweet moment—especially on a cool night! 🐦💛
We love seeing our products in action and how they bring joy to your feathered friends. Thanks again for sharing!
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but these are the locations that I have installed the swallow nests. I've been a bird watcher since I was little. Now that I'm turning 50 this week and I'm still enjoying helping my birds. I have eastern blue birds, tree swallow, barn swallow, and started this summer cliff swallows all around my yard. People sure look when they drive by my place along the county road!😁 Oh and can't forget my wrens! Thanks for the nice swallow nests. I believe they will really like them when they return next spring!

Thank you so much for sharing this, and happy 50th birthday! 🎉 It’s wonderful to hear how you’ve been birdwatching since childhood and are still creating such a welcoming space for so many species. Eastern Bluebirds, swallows, wrens—you’ve got quite the bird haven there! We’re so glad the swallow nests found a good home and can’t wait for you to see them in action come spring.

Hey Kara,
Short and sweet—just like this awesome review! Thanks a ton for the kind words! 😊
In addition to my wife, our barn swallow neighbors are very pleased with this nest. After their old nest was knocked down, we put up this new nest and within days, the barn swallows were filling it with mud. Now, a month later, the mom has laid her eggs and has been hanging out in the nest, keeping an eye on the eggs. We placed the second nest in a different spot and are hopeful that it will find a family too.

What a wonderful update—thank you for sharing it! We're so glad the new nest was accepted so quickly, and even more thrilled to hear it's already home to a new generation of swallows. Sounds like you’ve created a perfect little haven for them. Fingers crossed for nest number two!
There is a pond near our house, so it wasn’t surprising last year that a pair of Barn Swallows nested under our deck on a light fixture by the door from our basement. Though I was pleased, my wife was disgusted by the mess. So we bought a couple of nest cups and attached them to the beams under the deck, carefully placing them off to the sides where the messes would be out of the way (and away from beams that rat snakes might be able to climb). This year, both nest cups were quickly occupied and successful, and the swallows didn’t try nesting over the light. Not only was my wife pleased by the new nest sites, but she has come to love the antics of the swallows (and the mosquito control). Since one nest cup was being used for a second brood (before I could clean it out), we ordered and received two more nest cups. One of the new ones is already in use for a late second brood. Interestingly, there are a lot more Barn Swallows flying around (up to 15) and under the deck than just the nesting pair. I suppose this is an extended family. It will be interesting to see how big our Barn Swallow colony can get!

Simple, well constructed, quick delivery and did the job! Barn swallows immediately nested (I think we also caught it at just the right time). They had built a mud nest directly above porch swing but not laid eggs yet. We took that nest down and mounted this one a few feet away in a more convenient (for us) location. They nested in it the next day!
I have put up one of the nest cups, and will build top and sides around the other as it won't be under a covered area. I loved the nesting material included with my order as well as some pamplets with lots of good information about the swallows and other species as well. Although I am curious if I could put two nests under one roof? How much space is required?
Store owner replied:
Hi Suzanne,Yes, you may place to cups under that same roof. At the opposite end would be ideal. You may want to raise the 2nd cup closer to the ceiling. In the wild, barn swallows tend to build as close as possible to a roof (or perpendicular surface). Thanks again & take good care :)
I haven't been able to find anywhere else in the US that makes/ships barn swallow nests. I was super thrilled to order these. I gave the second one to a neighbor who wanted to have a different location for her pair of swallows. When we fist moved in they were building a nest on the porch light directly next to the front door. Sometimes they'd fly into the house and it was a big deal for my dogs. I didn't mind them being on the porch they just needed to be away from the front door. I installed the new nest and kept washing away what they were trying to build by the front door and in about 24 hours they made the new nest theirs! Now they have decorated it themselves and laid their eggs. They don't try to fly in the house anymore!
After 20 years in our house, last year a couple of barn swallows decided to nest on top of one of our outdoor speakers. We removed the speakers after the swallows vacated and figured the swallows wouldn't come back without a perch...we were wrong! We spent three weeks trying to get them to leave as there was literally no good place to nest, try as they did to build one. After much frustration I stumbled across these nest cups. I was so antsy for them to arrive quickly and when they did my husband put one up near where last year's nest was and within ten minutes our momma swallow parked herself in it. Now a couple weeks later, we have a builit-out nest and eggs! These nest cups are PERFECT and built incredibly well. Highly recommend!!
Our swallows nest had fallen down and they lost 3 baby chicks. I found these and thought they could be a great solution. They are built very well, fast and easy to put up. After a day of checking it out, our swallows moved right in!

Awesome news! Thanks for the photo and the kind words on our nest cups :)
Simple to install. Used by some swallows, not yet by all though. Prevents the mud nests from falling. An essential tool during these years of drought. This is my second order! We use the included feathers for other crafts though because the birds have access to plenty of local bedding material and I worry that they will dislike the smell of “store” feathers. I even rubbed the mud from another nest that had fallen into the new wooden cup so it might smell more like bird and less like human.
The swallow nest cups arrived in perfect condition and are sturdily made. I painted them white to match our porch roof and can't wait to install them! They're made of thick wood and it's easy to see that a lot of thought and love for detail goes into them; each cup is solid and beautiful. To my surprise there was some really useful bird and nesting info inside my package as well, alongside a baggie with nesting materials and information on how to provide the materials as an option to birds. This company's passion for birds and their conservation is very obvious and I'll definitely recommend you!
Our porch barn swallows LOVE their new nest. There was actually a rumble in the air between families when word got out about the sweet upgrade our swallows got. Daddy Bird was instantly enamored and moved right in. Momma Bird took a bit more convincing but they quickly set up shop within a few hours of us installing the nest. Near the nest we hung a bag of the surprise nesting material we received in our shipment. Shipping was super fast too, the bag of nesting materials was a pleasant surprise and we enjoyed reading all of the great info packets on our guests and other birds. I’ve recommended these nests to other neighbors who also have barn swallows families nesting in their porches. Our swallows give their AirBnB a solid 10/10, will be back to nest next year.
The barn swallow nesting cups were sturdy and well made.I painted them to match the house paint and added the nice nesting material provided. They took to them immediately and built on their mud and spit nests.Business of making babies is booming.
The swallow nest was even better than I expected! 🙌 I loved all the extra pamphlets I received on how to attract various birds to my yard. I will definitely be ordering more things in the future! 💕
Well, they arrived on time and in good shape. Took the time to paint them both to match the house. Installed easily and look good. I did add a couple of extra screw holes to the bottom because of where I installed them. Now just waiting for the swallows that have nested here in the past to come back this spring.
It has been great. I have a mated pair. They added their own mud, and the nesting materials I received with the nest cups. And there are 6 eggs in the nest box. Oh, and the insect population is greatly reduced.

A week after a 100+yr old barn was torn down the barn swallows arrived home from their migration. The swallows were frantic with most barns already gone in the area. I quickly reached out with an order and asked for any possible help. My order came very quickly with an encouraging email as well. I will definitely be a return customer.
Store owner replied:
Reita, what a story — and what a thing to do for those swallows. Coming home to find their barn gone after a 100-year run is a hard situation, and the fact that you moved that fast to help them says everything. We're really glad the order got there quickly. Those cups are going to make a real difference. Welcome back anytime. 🐦
Just what they needed! The same day I put the nest up, they started decorating their space.
Store owner replied:
This is everything 🥹🐦💛
We love hearing that they moved in immediately—sounds like they didn’t even need a tour, they just claimed it the same day!
Thank you so much for sharing this with us, it truly makes our day knowing the nest cups are already being put to good use.
Store owner replied:
Hey Michael,
Woohoo—music to our ears (and theirs)! 🎶🏡
Barn Swallows have excellent taste—glad you’re ready for their arrival. Thanks for giving them such a cozy spot!
I put up one where the birds where building and they stopped building. No worries. Maybe next year they will use it. Nicely nade.
Store owner replied:
Thanks so much for sharing! Sometimes birds can be a little picky or just change plans—but we're glad to hear you're still hopeful. Here's to next nesting season and fingers crossed they’ll take to it then. Appreciate your kind words! 🐦💛
They're adorable... I'll have to go check to see there's activity in the nests..been a few days..
I loved it ! Now if I can get some barn swallows the go in there hotel... But but it's a little bit too late in the year and I got chicken hawk's 😂 I'm afraid chicken coop is next, unless I can configure my drone to work 24/7 and and mid fuel in flight while in the drone mode mode of surveillance 😂👽🙏🙏🙏
Store owner replied:
Haha—your message made our day! 😂 It sounds like you've got quite the wildlife adventure going on over there! Hopefully the barn swallows find their way to their new “hotel” soon… though we totally understand the chicken hawk dilemma (and the drone surveillance plan sounds like genius-level thinking 🛸). Fingers crossed your feathered guests check in soon — and that your coop stays safe! Thanks again for the fun and kind words! 💛
Recently purchased 2 Barn Swallow nests because the locals birds were starting to build a nest on our covered patio. We had to remove it because we shouldn't have been able to let our dogs out, use the patio, etc. We placed the pre-made nests along the fence and under a support beam. We also gave them a larger roof by putting some picket fencing material above the nests to give them even more protection. They have not moved in yet. Perhaps we removed their nest too late in the season and maybe they will make the new nests their home in the future. We sure hope so. These nests are beautifully made, and I would purchase again if we needed.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We're so glad to hear you found the Barn Swallow nests beautifully made — and it sounds like you gave them a great setup with extra shelter and a thoughtful location.Sometimes it can take a little time (or even a new season) for swallows to fully adjust to a new nesting spot, especially if their original nest was already underway. But you've created an inviting and protected space, and that definitely increases the chances they'll return or others will take notice! We’re keeping our fingers crossed they move in soon — and we’re always here if you need anything else. Thank you again for your kind words and support! 💛
These houses appear well made and super easy to put mount

It was as advertised. Shipped very quickly and was well made.Unfortunately, my barn swallows didn’t use it, but now I have 2 really cool, but unoccupied, nest cups just waiting for some tenants.
After hearing from a neighbor about her nesting solution for barn swallows, I purchased the set of two. After seeing a barn swallow checking out my front porch, my husband and I got them up ASAP yesterday. The swallows spent the afternoon flying in and out of one of them, so I hope they do their thing and create a home in the near future!
This are great little swallow cups and just what I was looking for. They shipped quickly, arrived in great shape and were thoughtfully packed. I can't wait to see how my barn swallow colony takes to them!
I ordered two Nest Cups and they looked so good I ordered two more! Nest cups are well made and they were shipped fast! Can’t wait until spring for my swallows to arrive! Susan F
Can’t wait to set up my swallow nests next spring to welcome my friends back to their summer home. The quality is great and will work perfectly for my needs. I especially appreciated all the bird and nesting info that was included. Thank you!
We’ve decided to welcome barn swallows into our garden shed! We’ve installed these nest cups to make it easier for the swallows to move in. The cups are lightweight, well-made and a snap to hang.I appreciate all the advice Beth has given me on this project. I’m grateful to have found such a great company to purchase my bird related items from!
The houses are well made and perfect to attract the barn swallows. I also appreciated the bird nesting material that was added to my shipment. I will definitely purchase more bird houses from Birdhouse Chick:)! Thank You
