Northern White Cedar Log Feeder
Northern White Cedar Log Feeder
Description
A rustic-meets-clean cedar log feeder that turns suet time into a backyard event. Made from solid Northern White Cedar with the bark removed and the surface roughened, it gives birds a natural texture to cling to while they feed. Suet is popular with chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, and woodpeckers, and this log gives them plenty of room to cling and feed.
Fill the drilled holes with suet plugs, spreadable suet, or peanut butter. Choose the Small (16 inch, four holes) for a simple setup, or the Large (24 inch, eight holes) when you want room for more birds to feed at once.
Where to hang it: Suet feeders can hang from a tree branch, from a pole near your other feeders, or from a wire stretched between two trees. Birds feel safest close to cover, so aim to place the feeder within about 10 feet of trees or shrubs, but keep it away from low shrubs and branches where cats can hide. If you hang it near a window, placing it within about three feet of the glass helps reduce window collisions.
Good to know: Cedar is a natural material. Your log may arrive with a few splits or cracks, or develop them as it dries. The cracks stop at the core and will not split the log in half. They add to the rustic look, and you can fill them with peanut butter or suet too.
