Four upgrades set this kit apart from a basic solar fountain: a solar panel with a backup battery that keeps the pump running through cloudy stretches, a water sensor that automatically shuts the pump off if it ever runs dry, a removable foam float so the same unit works in a pond or pool as well as a bird bath, and a remote control that lets you turn the fountain on or off from a distance.
